Bragg Jam Kids

Bragg Jam is appealing to the entire family by hosting the Arts & Kids' Festival on Saturday, July 26. The FREE festival takes place along the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail from noon until 6 p.m.

New this year is the Plein Air Paint Out. Artists from all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in the same-day juried art exhibition. Participants must come prepared with canvas, brushes and paints and create their work along the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail between the hours of 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. (canvases must be stamped to qualify for contest entry). There will be two winning categories: Audience Choice and Critics' Choice. Each winner will receive $150 cash. Festival attendees will be able to observe the artists' progress and vote early for their favorite. At 5 p.m. the artwork will be displayed along the trail. Artists have the option to make a tax-deductible donation of their painting to Bragg Jam Inc. to be auctioned off at next year's kick-off fundraiser.

At 3 p.m. registration begins for Radio Disney's Hannah Montana Lip-Synch Contest. The contest begins at 4 p.m. where Hannah Montana fans will compete in categories for "Best Dressed" and "Best Performance."

Another highlight of the festival is Tree Climbing USA, a group of professionally-certified tree climbers, who will be on hand to give children an authentic "bird's eye view" using safety harnesses, ropes, teamwork and guidance. Reservations are currently being accepted for group climbs (kids 8-12) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the day of the festival. The cost of the 30-minute tree climb is $10. For group reservations, call Meagan Evans at 478.464.1840.

At 12:30 p.m., the Four Winds Tribal Council will issue a river blessing and tribal dance. Live music throughout the festival will be provided by Scott Pallot and Bobby Ferguson. Other activities include community performances by local karate and dance groups, a tie-dye t-shirt station, pet parade, Sportz Quest tumble bus, water balloon toss and an appearance by Smokey the Bear. In addition to dozens of arts and business vendors, favorite local restaurants will sell food and beverages.

Free parking for the Arts & Kids' Festival is provided at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and includes free trolley transportation to and from the trail.
